I’ve had to help some people out with this recently and decided having a post up on here is way better than having to type up shit on twitter every time.
What Is Tokusatsu and Why You should Give It a Try Tokusatsu are essentially Live-Action TV shows that make regular use of special effects, especially practical effects. An easy example of this would be rubber suits rather than CGI suits, although that’s not to say Tokusatsu shows don’t make use of CGI, especially today.
It’s been a pretty good year for fighting games, and really games in general. We had the release of Street Fighter 6 & GBVS: Rising, betas for SamSho, UNI2 and DBFZ rollback, a beta for Tekken 8, some cool DNF Duel & KOF XV character releases, and a bunch of cool events.
The Quality of Releases Now SF6 did a lot of good things in its release. It’s got a godlike training mode, a decent single player mode that lets people learn more about their favorite fighters, some sc-inspired character customization, the works.
Dandadan Anime Late in the month, we got the first trailer for an upcoming Dandadan anime . I already sung Dandadan’s praises a while back; you already know I’m hype for this. This series is just bonkers. I’m very high on this series, even if I’m not caught up atm. It’s just a good time. Go read the manga. Join me, brothers/sisters/persons of undefinable genders.
Omega Strikers Omega Strikers sadly announced that it will have no more content updates and that focus will be given to developing future titles with the hope of creating games with stronger player retention.
Garo My prayers have been answered! There is a new Garo on the way! Announced on October 10th after a very sudden countdown that took place over a few days, a new Garo titled (roughly) “The One Who Inherits Steel/Inheritor of Steel” will be coming in January. It’s set in the Ryuga universe and will be following Ryuga himself.
I’m so damn excited for this, man. I haven’t really gotten the chance to talk about it beyond that post I made in the beginning when I made this blog, but Garo truly is my fvaorite tokusatsu franchise.
Genshin The 4.2 Patch is upon us, and that means another Archon quest. This was a pretty enjoyable followup to the previous one, and formally introduces Arlecchino in-game. She really makes a strong impression. So strong, that I am now hoarding all my primos for the patch she becomes playable(no way they don’t make her payable, right???).
I lost the Zhongli 50/50 to Diluc, which isn’t that bad since Diluc is a pretty solid character and he’s pairs well with Yelan, who is my previous 5-star pull.
Spider-Verse Across the Spider-Verse hit digital, so i could finally watch it. The first Spider-verse is one of my favorite movies, period. It’s definitely my favorite non-tokusatsu superhero movie. This movie’s right up there behind it.
This movie is such a good time from start to finish. It looks amazing, the music’s great, and it gives us a lot of characters to love. We get to learn a lot more about Gwen and her family troubles in this movie.
Genshin Genshin was the main game I played this month; it’s just an easy game to turn on and waste time on. Most of my time on it was spent towards developing my characters for Spiral Abyss, which is still a work in progress due to the fact that I have more units that I’m leveling now. This month’s banner gave me quite a few new units that I’m dedicating resources to because they’re fun and fill a need for my roster.
Some Game Announcements Burn My Dread We got an announcement for Persona 3 Reloaded, a remake of OG base Persona 3. This is something that has been a a long time coming. I know so many fans of Persona 3; that game is a classic for people in my age range. I have a lot of love for Persona 3. An ill-fated Windows update crashed my computer and killed my save for my playthrough of it(and thusly, most of my urge to restart it since I was a little over halfway through), but I loved what I played before that point.
